"How if he were suffering?" Morgan asks softly.

"Stop it, aunt."

"How if he were no longer worthy of your service?"

"Stop it!" He flings himself to his feet, away from her. She can see the fear and the anger in him, a sullen heat like iron in the forge. She rises, sets hands on his shoulders and does not flinch when he turns on her. "Don't touch me."

"Why not?"

He's young, and doesn't know his own strength. In the morning he'll wake and see her bruised wrists, and leave doubly ashamed. Meanwhile, she takes pleasure in his fire.
